Service learning is a teaching and learning strategy that integrates meaningful community service with instruction and reflection to enrich the learning experience, teach civic responsibility, and strengthen communities.
What is Service Learning?
Service learning is a method of teaching that combines academic study with community service. Students learn about a topic by doing service projects that relate to the topic. For example, students learning about environmental science might volunteer at a local park to help clean up the environment and learn about the importance of conservation.
Service learning can be used in any subject area and at any grade level. It can be used to teach students about a variety of topics, including:
