Jade is an ornamental stone of great value and significance and has been treasured for thousands of years in many cultures, particularly in China. It is composed primarily of the mineral nephrite, which is a type of amphibole, and sometimes of jadeite, which is a type of pyroxene. Jade is formed when these minerals are concentrated and intertwined and vary in color from green to white to lavender and even black.
What is Jade?
The term "jade" is often used to describe two different types of stone: nephrite and jadeite. While they have similar color and texture, they are not the same mineral. Jadeite is more rare and therefore more valuable than nephrite.
Properties of Jade
Jade is a hard and durable stone, making it well-suited for carving and jewelry-making. It is also relatively resistant to heat and chemicals. Jade is often associated with good luck and prosperity and is believed to have healing properties.
