PageRank is a computational technique used to determine the relevance of a web page to a search query. Developed by Google co-founders Larry Page and Sergey Brin, PageRank evaluates web pages in terms of their importance and prominence by referencing the number and quality of other web pages that link to them. In essence, it's a web page's popularity score, where the more inbound links from significant websites a page has, the higher its PageRank.
How PageRank Works
At the core of PageRank is the concept of backlinks. Backlinks are hyperlinks from one web page to another, indicating a relationship between them. The more authoritative and relevant the linking website is, the more weight the backlink carries. These backlinks are like votes of confidence, and the more votes a page receives, the higher its PageRank becomes.
