Intermediate System-to-Intermediate System or IS-IS is a routing protocol for internet Protocol networks. The protocol was developed by the Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF) and was standardized in 1998. IS-IS is similar to other routing protocols like the Open Shortest Path First (OSPF) protocol. While OSPF is a link-state routing protocol that runs in a single area, IS-IS is also a link-state routing protocol, but it operates in multiple areas. This feature makes IS-IS a more suitable option for large networks.

The Benefits of IS-IS

There are several benefits to learning IS-IS, including:

  • Improved network performance: IS-IS can help to improve network performance by optimizing routing paths. This can lead to reduced latency, improved throughput, and increased reliability.
  • Simplified network management: IS-IS is a relatively simple protocol to configure and manage. This can save time and resources for network administrators.
  • Increased security: IS-IS includes several security features that can help to protect networks from unauthorized access. These features include authentication, encryption, and access control lists.

How Online Courses Can Help You Learn IS-IS
