Enabling Technologies for Data Science and Analytics
The Internet of Things
The Internet of Things is rapidly growing. It is predicted that more than 25 billion devices will be connected by 2020.
In this data science course, you will learn about the major components of the Internet of Things and how data is acquired from sensors. You will also examine ways of analyzing event data, sentiment analysis, facial recognition software and how data generated from devices can be used to make decisions.
What you'll learn
- Networks, protocols and basic software for the Internet of Things (IoT)
- How automated decision and control can be done with IoT technologies
- Discuss devices including sensors, low power processors, hubs/gateways and cloud computing platforms
- Learn about the relationship between data science and natural language and audio-visual content processing
- Study research projects drawn from scientific journals, online media, and novels
- Review fundamental techniques for visual feature extraction, content classification and high-dimensional indexing
- Techniques that can be applied to solve problems in web-scale image search engines, face recognition, copy detection, mobile product search, and security surveillance
- Examine data collection, processing and analysis

What people are saying
speed x1.5 or x2
If you're interested in IoT, then I recommend to only watch the videos (at speed x1.5 or x2) and skip the quizes.
about possible security issues
Also some of the expected answers are simply wrong, for example the question about possible security issues in IoT devices: certain types of attack might be "less likely" but that doesn't mean they're a not valid security concern and that you can ignore them.
draws no link
In this course, they introduced Internet of Things, but draws no link to Data Science or Analytics.
vague as hell
Still, the biggest issue is that the lectures do not totally cover the quizzes, so you have to go out and research for hours to try to find the answers, which of course are vague as hell because this technology is ever changing...
totally agree
Totally agree with the above review.

biggest issue
broadband specifications
A series of unrelated videos on broadband specifications in a monotonous format.

complete it
I tried hard to complete it because I had validated the 2 previous courses of the series (which I found good and in line with the specialization's goal) but this one was a real disaster.
constructive comments
I put some constructive comments on the forum but they got deleted.
currently near
I'm currently near the end of week 2 of this 3 week course.
