Creative Writing

Creative Writing,

In this course aspiring writers will be introduced to the techniques that masters of fiction use to ground a story in a concrete world. From the most realist settings to the most fantastical, writers will learn how to describe the physical world in sharp, sensory detail. We will also learn how to build credibility through research, and to use creative meditation exercises to deepen our own understanding of our story worlds, so that our readers can see all that we imagine.

amity gaige

The instructor Amity Gaige was very professional and interesting.

Amity Gaige is one of the best teachers of this specialization.

Great great course, Amity Gaige has a great charisma, clearly explains ideas, inspires and influences writers, along with interesting readings suggestions, and i liked how she personally presented the assignments.

I really like Amity Gaige as an instructor.

Amity Gaige was a great instructor who provided exercises and lectures that stretched my imagination.

Mrs. Amity Gaige.

Thank you, Amity Gaige!

The way Amity Gaige passes on her learnings makes it extremely easy for the beginners to pick things up.

setting and description

This course is awesome, it made me think about setting and description in a whole new way.

I felt that everything taught about setting and description was very elementary (I say this as a K-3 teacher who has regularly taught the concepts of setting and description) and not that useful for someone looking to take their writing to a more professional level.

While I have enjoyed all three modules, I learned the most from this one.The first three weeks are very effectively focused on the course theme, setting and description--why it is an essential component of story-telling, what constitutes significant detail, and how to "research" to find the detail to include.

The videos in the final week (on genre and historical fiction) wander a bit from the central theme, but are certainly relevant to issues of setting and description.

Very good I really enjoyed Amity's style of teaching for this course on The Craft of Setting and Description.

Amity is an amazing instructor and gives great incite and lessons on Setting and description.

Highly reccomen The course, The Craft of Setting and Description, allows students to delve into the skills needed for polished creative writing.

One can tell that Amity Gaige has carefully tailored this course to teach us the craft of setting and description.

Only now after taking this course, I can appreciate how important setting and description really is for the reader and also for the characters in your story.

An excellent course to help you involve in the art of setting and description.

Amity Gage is an excellent Instructor with helpful tips and information regarding The Craft of Setting and Description.

Being forced outside my comfort zone has really gotten me thinking about writing from a different angle and I think that will help so much moving back to my own writing I've enjoyed "The Craft of Setting and Description."

I've learned a lot about what to include where setting and description are concerned and what to leave out.

One such constituent is setting and description.

creative writing

Another excellent course in this program of study for the craft of creative writing, with practical exercises and useful constraints that really helped me to progress my understanding of creative writing and improve my storytelling skills.

I enjoyed every course in the Creative Writing Specialization This was a very good course.

This, for me, has been, by far the best part of the Creative writing course.

the most informative and most structured out of all Creative Writing Specialization courses so far.

The creative writing series of classes have been extremely enjoyable.

Definitely one of the strongest segments of the creative writing specializations.

One of the best creative writing courses.

Creative writing being an art, one may try and describe its constituents but never an entire composition.

As a side note, those auditing this creative writing series from Wesleyan University must choose one of their paid routes of they desire to turn in assignments and get feedback from classmates.

I recently completed the 5-course specialization in creative writing.

I would recommend this course to anyone who wants to improve their creative writing.

For me, this might have been the most challenging course of the Creative Writing Specialization in that it targeted one of my weaknesses as a writer, but the assignments tested me and helped me to hone the craft of description (and setting).

They had some interesting thoughts, but for the most part they felt repetitive and for someone who hasn't written much creative writing. However, I really liked the assignments and peer editing.

I have learned so much from this course. And this might be the best of the 5 courses First, Amity is a great teacher.Second, all courses of creative writing gave me much more than the lessons, they gave me wider horizons and confidence. This one was so valuable, it made me learn various styles of telling stories, second person and lastly some secrets of how to create my story world.

really enjoyed this course

I really enjoyed this course and learned a lot.

Really enjoyed this course, even though the assignments were increasingly hard.In the first week there are a few hours of videos, after that only about 1.5 hours of material per week, but it's very concentrated goodness.

I really enjoyed this course and the reading selected by Ms.

I really enjoyed this course!

peer reviews

Writing and receiving peer reviews is a tremendous learning opportunity.

The best parts of this course are faculty as well as the feedback received in peer reviews.

The peer reviews were mostly constructive and the instructor was clear and brought her learnings across.

I know it sounds unimportant, but we're here to write, and when we're given awkward assignments, the peer reviews go haywire and the writing quality declines for everyone.I read some of the best work, peer work, in this class and in the style class.

For me the peer reviews are a weakness for a number of reasons: students don't always have the same understanding of the assignments; it would be nice to have feedback from an 'expert' e.g.

The instructor is amazing and, the assignments and peer reviews really give an opportunity to the writer to hon their skills!
