Mechanical Technicians are responsible for the hands-on tasks needed to maintain and repair machines and mechanical equipment in a variety of industries. They install, adjust, inspect, and repair machines to ensure that they are operating properly.

Roles and Responsibilities

Mechanical Technicians also oversee the maintenance of machines and equipment to prevent breakdowns and ensure optimal performance. They troubleshoot problems, diagnose issues, and perform repairs and maintenance tasks. They also work with engineers and other professionals to design and build new machinery and equipment.

Additionally, Mechanical Technicians may be responsible for the calibration and maintenance of test equipment. They may also perform preventive maintenance and calibrations to ensure that equipment is working properly and efficiently.

Qualifications and Skills

Mechanical Technicians typically have a high school diploma or equivalent and often have an associate’s or bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or a related field. They also have strong mechanical skills and experience working with tools and equipment. Mechanical Technicians should be able to read and interpret blueprints and schematics. They must also be able to work independently and as part of a team.

Mechanical Technicians should have a strong understanding of the principles of mechanical engineering, including fluid power, thermodynamics, and mechanics. They should also be familiar with the use of computer-aided design (CAD) software and have experience with machining and fabrication techniques.
