Laryngology is a specialized field of medicine that focuses on the diagnosis and treatment of disorders of the larynx, or voice box. Laryngologists are medical doctors who have completed additional training in otolaryngology, which is the study of the ear, nose, and throat. They are able to diagnose and treat a wide range of conditions that affect the voice, including hoarseness, laryngitis, and vocal cord paralysis.
Education and Training
To become a laryngologist, you must first complete a bachelor's degree in a science-related field, such as biology or chemistry. After graduating from college, you must attend medical school and earn your medical degree. Once you have completed medical school, you must complete a residency program in otolaryngology.
