Planning Technicians are responsible for assisting planners in developing and implementing land use plans and policies. They may also work on environmental impact assessments, transportation planning, and other related projects. Planning Technicians typically have a bachelor's degree in planning, urban planning, or a related field. They must also have a strong understanding of land use law, zoning regulations, and other planning principles.
Job Duties
The day-to-day responsibilities of a Planning Technician may include:
- Conducting research on land use, zoning, and other planning issues
- Preparing maps, charts, and other visual aids to support planning proposals
- Writing reports and other documents to summarize planning findings
- Attending public meetings to present planning proposals and answer questions from the public
- Working with other professionals, such as engineers, architects, and lawyers, to ensure that planning proposals are feasible and meet all legal requirements
