Pharmaceutical Research Scientist Responsibilities
Pharmaceutical Research Scientists are responsible for many of the steps involved in the research and development of new drugs and pharmaceutical products. These steps may include:
- Identifying and researching new drug targets and mechanisms of action
- Designing and conducting preclinical studies to evaluate the safety and efficacy of new drug compounds
- Working with other scientists to develop and conduct clinical trials in humans to evaluate the safety and efficacy of new drug compounds
- Analyzing data from clinical trials and other studies to make recommendations about the development and marketing of new drug compounds
- Collaborating with other scientists, engineers, and business professionals to bring new drug products to market
Education and Background
Pharmaceutical Research Scientists typically have a strong academic background in the life sciences, such as a bachelor's degree in biology, chemistry, or a related field. Many Pharmaceutical Research Scientists also have a graduate degree, such as a master's degree or doctorate in a life science discipline.
