A school social worker, also known as a school social worker, is a professional who provides counseling, support, and resources to students and their families. School social workers work in schools and collaborate with teachers, administrators, and other staff to promote the academic, social, and emotional well-being of students. They also work with parents and caregivers to support students' success.

What School Social Workers Do

School social workers provide a range of services to students, including:

How to Become a School Social Worker

To become a school social worker, you will typically need a master's degree in social work (MSW) from a Council on Social Work Education (CSWE)-accredited program. You will also need to complete a supervised internship in a school setting. In addition, most states require school social workers to be licensed by the state board of social work.

Skills and Qualities of Successful School Social Workers

Successful school social workers have a strong understanding of child development and adolescent psychology. They are also skilled in counseling, crisis intervention, and working with diverse populations. In addition, school social workers must be able to work independently and as part of a team.
