Certified Registered Nurse Practitioner
Certified Registered Nurse Practitioners (CRNPs) are advanced practice nurses who provide a wide range of primary and acute care services. They are licensed to diagnose and treat illnesses, prescribe medications, and order diagnostic tests. CRNPs work in a variety of settings, including hospitals, clinics, and private practices.
Education and Training
To become a CRNP, you must first earn a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) from an accredited nursing program. After completing your BSN, you must then complete a Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) program with a focus on CRNP practice. MSN programs typically take two to three years to complete and include coursework in advanced nursing practice, pharmacology, pathophysiology, and physical assessment.
Scope of Practice
CRNPs have a broad scope of practice that includes:
- Diagnosing and treating illnesses
- Prescribing medications
- Ordering diagnostic tests
- Providing health education and counseling
- Managing chronic conditions
- Performing minor surgical procedures
