Sports umpires and referees are responsible for enforcing the rules of a sport and ensuring that the game is played fairly. They make judgments on plays and calls, and they may also have to resolve disputes between players and coaches. Sports umpires and referees must have a good understanding of the rules of the sport they are officiating, and they must be able to make quick and accurate decisions. They must also be able to communicate effectively with players, coaches, and fans.

Education and Training

There are a few different ways to become a sports umpire or referee. Some people start out by volunteering to officiate youth sports leagues. Others may take classes or workshops on officiating. Still others may work their way up through the ranks, starting as a linesman or field judge and eventually becoming a referee or umpire.
