Registered Massage Therapists (RMTs) treat a variety of physical ailments by using massage, trigger point therapy, and other hands-on techniques to provide relief from pain, reduce stress, and promote relaxation. RMTs work in a variety of settings, including private clinics, hospitals, spas, and fitness centers.

Education and Training

To become a Registered Massage Therapist, you must complete a massage therapy program at an accredited school or college. These programs typically take one to two years to complete and include coursework in anatomy, physiology, pathology, massage techniques, and ethics. Once you have completed your program, you must pass a national or state certification exam in order to practice as a Registered Massage Therapist.

Skills

Registered Massage Therapists must have a strong understanding of human anatomy and physiology. They must also be skilled in a variety of massage techniques, including Swedish massage, deep tissue massage, trigger point therapy, and sports massage. Additionally, Registered Massage Therapists must be compassionate and have good communication skills.
