What's inside

Four courses

Fundamentals of GIS

(0 hours)
Explore the world of spatial analysis and cartography with geographic information systems (GIS). In this class, you will learn the basics of the industry’s leading software tool, ArcGIS, during four week-long modules: Week 1: Learn how GIS evolved and install ArcGIS on your computer. Week 2: Explore data using ArcMap and learn foundational GIS concepts. Week 3: Symbolize data and create maps. Week 4: Share your data and maps and learn to store and organize your data.

GIS Data Formats, Design and Quality

(0 hours)
In this course, the second in the Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Specialization, you will go in-depth with common data types, structures, quality and storage. You will learn about data models and formats, including vector data and raster concepts. You will also learn how to create a vector data model, work with rasters, and explore datasets for quality and uncertainty.

Geospatial Analysis with ArcGIS

(0 hours)
Apply your GIS knowledge in this course on geospatial analysis, focusing on analysis tools, 3D data, working with rasters, projections, and environment variables. Through all four weeks of this course, we'll work through a project together - something unique to this course - from project conception, through data retrieval, initial data management and processing, and finally to our analysis products.

GIS Applications Across Industries

(0 hours)
Geographic Information Systems (GIS) is becoming an essential business skill across a variety of different disciplines. In this course, you will explore how GIS skills are commonly applied and used in a variety of industries. You will be empowered to conduct GIS-based analyses that are commonly used in these areas and benefit from how each industry uses GIS to tackle common analysis needs.

Learning objectives

  • Create and work with raster data.
  • Develop and analyze data for the geospatial analysis project.
  • Develop a large processing workflow in modelbuilder.
  • Interpret and explain the results you obtained in comparison to your original gis question and/or hypothesis.
