Melanie and I quit our jobs over 10 years ago leaving the corporate world of IT and finance. We didn't have a plan at the time only a dream. It was a struggle, we had debt but we persevered and both own successful businesses that gives us the freedom lifestyle we've always dreamed about.

Write down the reason you want to quit your day job

If your gonna quit your job and assuming you don't like your job. I would really encourage you to start working something you love so you don't have regrets about that.

Create a budget listing all of your monthly expenses and include the item for emergencies just in case. We've created a a template for you to follow so you don't forget anything.

There's nothing that stresses out someone more then having nagging bills in the back of your mind while your trying to work. Start reducing your debt before you quit your job. You don't have to be debt free but if you can eliminate some of the burden it will be huge.

Lower expenses: Cable Bill, Insurance, negotiate your mortgage.

Have a big garage sale and put stuff up on Ebay so you can reinvest into your business.

Start saving money just in case there are slow months in your business so it doesn't stress you out. You have some cushion and peace of mind while working at your dream job.

Don't wait for the perfect time or once you've actually quit your job before you start working on your business. Start building it now.

Look at your calendar and give yourself a time frame with a specific date you want to quit your job.

Leaving on good terms with your employer is so important because you never know if they want to hire you as a contractor or if you want to come back at a later date.

"You Miss Every Shot You Don't Take"

When you sit down in front of your computer ask yourself is this going to make me money or am I just doing this because it's easy and I check it off my list. It doesn't matter how hard you worked or how many hours you put in. All that matters is results.

Hear are some tips on how to keep going and pivoting when things are just not working out.

When Melanie and I quit our jobs all of a sudden regular coffees or eating out became tax write offs. This was because we were always talking about business. All you do is write on the back of the receipt and file it away in an envelope for your yearly taxes.
