When it comes to the color names, it is very common to get confused by so many names for colors. Since there are so many names, it becomes essential to first create a standard set of color names and language. Over the years, I have become very comfortable it using a very simple names for all the types of colors that we see in nature.
In this video, I will share my simple guide to color nomenclature. You will start identifying colors by not their labels, but what you actually see. I will also share some striking discrepancies when it comes to different names for same colors or same names being used for different colors and how our simple nomenclature can help us completely avoid these confusions for us.

One of the main objective of this course is for us to be able to decipher any color that we see and re-create it accurately by mixing the paints that we have. I call that as an artist's superpower.
In this video I share insights into the various types of paints available most commonly across various paint manufacturers. This is the time to download the 1st document with exercises to equip us through the experiments in the next few videos.

In this exercise, we will create all our 12 colors of the color wheel by mixing the 3 conventional primary colors (Yellow, Red & Blue).
Kindly download and use the worksheets available in the download section if not done so yet. (The same file was available for download in the previous video as well).
I really encourage you to attempt these exercises as they will serve as important reference sheets for us in the future.

Now, let us complete our 12 hues color wheel by filling in colors directly from the tubes/bottles. If you have a starter pack of 5-6 colors only, then this exercise is optional for you. If you do have paints beyond the basic primary colors, I highly recommend that you complete this exercise for all the pure colors that you have in your kit. This completed sheet will later serve you as a good reference sheet whenever you have to quickly match a color without needing to open the tube/bottle.
Happy Learning!

In this video, let us split the primary colors into two and then create all the secondary and tertiary colors by mixing the best respective pairs of primary colors.
Once that is done, we can optimize our color palette by shifting back some of the split primaries to single primaries. This will most certainly be our chosen custom color palette.

In this video, let us paint a realistic tree together. Most of us have grown up learning to draw and paint a very simple tree. Many of us yearn to paint a realistic tree. In this video, I will show you step-by-step on how we can paint a realistic tree by implementing all the learning we have gathered so far in this course.
Once we attempt a realistic tree, we can actually get more creative and paint a tree in even more bold and and imaginative colors. If we get the values, intensity and temperature of color right, the resultant tree would still look realistic. That's the magic of these concepts :-)

In this tutorial I will show you step-by-step in composing a simple sunrise landscape painting. This is a very exciting painting because it has all the colors from the color wheel in it. This painting is an improvisation of the conventional simple landscape drawing which most of us used to make during our early childhood times.
In this painting, you will learn how to compose a simple landscape painting using some simple tips and techniques. I will also demonstrate how to smoothly blend various colors in the sky.
I encourage you to really try this painting as it will surely help you make an important shift in your artistic skills.

This is an important painting project and a milestone for us. All this while, we have either composed our painting using some ideas, or painted from a reference image or painted pre-set objects and shapes. With all the knowledge that we have gathered through this course, now we will attempt an abstract painting completely riding on the learning from this course. I would be sharing my step-by-step approach in painting one abstract painting in this video and I invite you to use this approach in painting your very own unique abstract art.

I was about to wind up this course, when this photo happened!
We had gone for a trek with few friends on this little hill top when my dear friend Sai clicked this beautiful silhouette pic of an adorable father-son duo. This scene makes for a very nice analogous color scheme with the family of yellows and oranges.
Come, paint with me this lovely scene as I walk you step-by-step in completing this one.
You may download the reference image which is used in this tutorial from the 'Downloads' section.
