修習這門課之前,應具備工程繪圖的基礎觀念,並能讀懂工程圖說,了解工程圖說符號所代表的意義。此外,也需具備3D建模的基礎觀念,並嘗試建立自己的3D模型。「CAD/BIM技術與應用」專項課程的「工程圖學2D CAD」、「工程圖學2D CAD專題」、「工程圖學3D CAD」、「工程圖學3D CAD專題」課程,可提供修習這門課前所需具備的相關知識。
