The aim of the course is to teach you to touch type in twelve easy lessons.  Each lesson progresses on through letters, words, sentences, capital letters/upper case and finally numbers, all aimed at improving your typing skill as we proceed.

To help with this course, there are typing lesson notes included for practice after each typing lesson to help you learn quickly..  The more you practice the foundation lessons of typing the more accurate and faster you will learn.

A keyboard will appear on your screen together with a notepad as the letters are typed.

You can simply open notepad and start typing whilst listening to the audio.  Just follow the instructions on screen

The success of the course depends on your willingness to follow the lesson plans.  Lessons are slow and repetitious.  Do not expect speed initially – this will come as you progress.

Remember to practice after each lesson from the course notes provided and your typing will improve.

At the end of the course you should be proficient in keying in letters automatically whilst looking at the screen only.  This will be most helpful which you are writing emails, reports, letters, books etc. as you can edit as you go along.

Home Keys

The aim of lesson 1 is to lay the foundation for the course.

The home keys are the foundation upon which all actions are determined.

Mastering the home keys means you have the tools to develop further.

Top Row

In lesson 2 you will work on the top row of keys. At the end of this lesson you will have a good familiarity with the home keys and the top row.

Remember you do not look at the keyboard you are typing on and you practice what you have learned again and again to improve accuracy.

Home Keys Part 2

Touch Typing: Bottom Row

In lesson 3 you will work on the bottom row of keys. At the end of this lesson you will have a good familiarity with the home keys, the top row and the bottom row.

It is important to practice your letters repeatedly.

  1. Which keys are covered by the second finger on the left:

Touch Typing: In lesson 4 you will type words made up from letters beginning with a through to e.

These words need to be practiced before commencing lesson 5.

Touch Typing: In lesson 5 you will type words made up from letters beginning with f through to j.

These words need to be practiced before commencing lesson 6. Remember accuracy is more important than speed so take your time and speed will come.

Touch Typing: In lesson 6 you will type words made up from letters beginning with k through to p.

These words need to be practiced before commencing lesson 7. Remember to practice well and you will be surprised how easy it is to type words.

Touch Typing: In lesson 7 you will type words made up from letters beginning with q through to u.

These words need to be practiced before commencing lesson 8. In lesson 8 all the letters of the alphabet will be completed.

Touch Typing: In lesson 8 you will type words made up from letters beginning with v through to z.

Before commencing lesson 9 make sure to practice well.

Touch Typing: You should now be comfortable with the keyboard and as we progress to lesson9 you will type short sentences. These sentences need to be repeated a number of times.

Touch Typing: In lesson 10 there are a number of longer sentences and these should be quite easy to type.

Just remember to repeat a number of times.

Touch Typing: In lesson 11 we become familiar with how to type upper case/capital letters. Do this exercise slowly and it will become automatic. This rule applies to all exercises. Accuracy first and speed will evolve.

Touch Typing: Our final lesson looks at the numbers on the top of the keyboard for which there are exercises for you to practice with.

The above lessons completes the course. By now you should be touch typing.

To become proficient, accurate and speedy needs practice following each lesson.
