This is a fun & interactive course that will give you the knowledge to master these subjects and prepare you for the CCNA certification. (..and yes, I said fun. )

You will need a simulator if you want to follow along. (i.e.: Cisco Packet Tracer, GNS3, Boson or live equipment). The course was created with the Cisco Packet Tracer.

Please Note: Unfortunately, the Cisco Packet Tracer is proprietary to Cisco and it is not part of this course. So, if in any of the lectures, you hear me say that I would provide the CPT, please disregard this for I cannot provide it and it is not part of the course.

It is the students responsibility to have these to practice with. The Cisco Packet Tracer and/or VIRAL (Virtual Internet Routing Lab) are Cisco proprietary software and can only be obtained through Cisco. It is up to each student to obtain the simulator/emulator of their choice to study along with this course.

The course will also show students advanced configurations of the Cisco Packet Tracer Server components Students will acquire and have a better understanding of the topics covered to guide them towards the CCNA or CCNAX certification.

This course is primarily hands on using the Cisco Packet Tracer with some lectures using the NEW & Improved Smart Board Technology. This type of course is most helpful, not only for the CCNA, but also for real world implementation of networks.

Handouts and labs will be available to facilitate learning and practice.

Once the student finishes the course they will be comfortable with IP configurations, Vlans, Access-lists, and Router configuration. It will also help them in preparing for the CCNA certification so they can have an advantage and pass the exam…also, for those already in the field, it will help them to better understand the use of the topics covered so they can implement it in their prospective networks.

Syllabus

In this section students will learn the design concepts of VLANs, how to create and assign them and also some basic server configurations

This Lecture is an introduction to this course. It will explain the importance and benefits a student will extract after finishing each lecture...and how this will ultimately help the student when taking their the CCNA certification exam. It will also explain how to apply these concepts to a real world environment.

This lecture will explain IP addressing involved in the network and will show the student how to assign the proper addresses to the servers. It will also show how to configure different services on the servers within the Cisco Packet Tracer. Students will be creating multiple DHCP scopes for the VLANs, and configure the external Web Server and its DNS.

This lecture will explain how to create a VLAN, name the VLAN and assign them to a port or range of ports. It will also show how to trunk ports and which ports need to be trunked.

In this lecture the student will learn how to access the router through the console port using a console cable, using a terminal emulation program as you would in the CCNA certification or the real world. Students will also be configuring basic administrative task (House Keeping) on the router and understand the importance of these command to include their purpose and function.

In this lecture students will be learning and configuring the IP helper-address in the sub-interfaces of the router, to allow the client machines acquire an IP address from the DHCP server. Students will learn about the encapsulation used for inter-vlan connectivity and how to configure it.
In this lecture students will be finishing the configurations on both routers and configure the distance vector routing protocol RIPv2 . Students will get a brief introduction to RIPv2 protocol and verify that it is working through the use of show commands on the router.
In this lecture students will learn about standard access-list and how to configure and apply them on the router. Students will create an access-list to block a particular host and then block an entire subnet, always verifying to make sure that the access-list is working properly.

IN THIS LAB WE WILL CONFIGURE A STANDARD ACL TO BLOCK TELNET.

In this lecture students will learn about extended access-list and how to configure and apply them on the router. Students will be controlling the type of access that hosts on a network can access on a particular server. In the Lab, the student will be denying access to port 80. They will then verify that the access-list is working properly using various methods.

This Lecture will explain how a private IP address gets translated to a public IP address to allow access to the internet and/or go online. Student will learn the terminology of Inside Local, Inside Global, Outside Local and Outside Global as it pertains to NAT.
This lecture will explain and show how to configure the NAT Overload or PAT on the router. The student will be able to verify if NAT is translating by using appropriate commands.

This lecture will explain and show how to verify that all the configurations are working as intended.

In this lecture the student will backup their startup configurations of both routers to the TFTP server.
