In order to become a successful stylist, you need to carry a kit. Your kit will be your best friend and allow to style to the best of your ability. In this class I will share a list for kit essentials and give my industry tips and tricks for using them effectively. This kit will come with you on all your photoshoots, it is also essential you still have your own kit even if you are assisting a fashion stylist as it shows you are prepared and professional.
Attending Graduate Fashion week is such an important part of becoming a stylist. You will get to view designers collections and network with them for forthcoming shoots.
They often say getting your foot in the door is the key to breaking into the fashion industry and networking is one of the key factors to how I became a successful fashion stylist. Nowadays, because of social media, it's much easier to network, but face to face is still the ultimate key to success. In this class, I will be teaching you how to network within the fashion industry, and not only just to network but to stand out from the crowd whilst doing so. Let me use my experience to enable you to have the best networking experiences to boost or kickstart your career.
Having access to a pull letter is a very important part of being a freelance stylist. It gives you access to certain fashion designers and brands from which you can pull clothing. In this class, I show you an example of what a commission letter looks like and how you can start contacting magazines to request commissions with this letter.
In this lesson, I will teach you how to create a stunning mood board. I will teach you the process of creating a mood board from conception to execution with step by step information. We will cover what a mood board looks like, how to begin your research using Pinterest and how to put it together. I will also teach you how to pitch your work to a fashion magazine, giving you names of magazines that you can start pitching your work to.
In this class, I will be showing you how I style both men and women on set. I will explain why it is important to have great communication skills, and you will see how I interact with both male and female models and the teams on set. You will also see how I lay out the clothing and how to pin a jacket, shirt and dress into place on a photoshoot. This class will take you through the entire process of a shoot from beginning to end.
In this class, you will learn the difference between styling a model on location and in a photoshoot setting. I am styling a model in clothes from the retailer Boohoo in Ladbroke Grove at Notting Hill carnival. I will teach you how important it is to style models according to the backgrounds you find on location and the lightning outside. I will also teach you how to pin essential items of clothing, including how to make a baggy trouser into slim fit trouser to fit the model and how to make a top that is too big to fit the model's size. I'll also share my industry secret, showing you the technique of how I use masking tape on shoes so that they don’t get damaged.
Styling celebrities and music artists are one of the most admired jobs as a stylist but it can also be one of the most stressful jobs because you are styling people who can be difficult and opinionated. When styling these people, you have to be passionate, patient and persistent. You also have to be a trend lover and a good researcher as you need to know what will suit your clients’ needs and figure shape. In this class, I will show you the behind-the-scenes of how I style a music artist for her press shots. You will learn how I interact and communicate with the client and how to hang up the clothes and put them in order so your shoot runs smoothly. I will also cover how I communicate with the hairstylist, breaking down what outfits the model will be wearing so that she knows how to do her hair and how I dress the musician onset.
In this exclusive video I am showing you behind the scenes footage of what it looks like when you attend a fashion press day event. I attend three fashion press events in one day to view the latest collections of the designers and brands. You will see how I speak and interact with the fashion PR and fashion designers. You will also get a sneak peek and see the designer's amazing collections.
In this exclusive video, you will see some of the latest collections from the IPR London press event that looks after designers such as Hunza G and Sadie Williams. You will see how the stylist gets a chance to preview the collections and take pictures in order to pre-plan for their photoshoots that are coming up. I also speak to fashion designers from different parts of the world who rented a space at the press event in order to create contacts for my database. You'll also see how easy it is to create a relationship with a fashion PR to start getting clothing.
