Maternal mortality, also referred to as maternal death, is the death of a woman while pregnant or within 42 days of termination of pregnancy, irrespective of the duration and site of the pregnancy, from any cause related to or aggravated by the pregnancy or its management but not from accidental or incidental causes.
Causes
Maternal mortality can result from a variety of causes, including:

Hemorrhage, which is excessive bleeding before, during, or after childbirth.

Sepsis, which is a life-threatening infection that can occur after childbirth.

Hypertension, or high blood pressure, which can lead to a number of complications, including pre-eclampsia and eclampsia.

Risk Factors
