Routing protocols are the unsung heroes of the internet and all modern network communication. At a high level, they are sets of rules or algorithms that routers use to determine the best path for data to travel from a source to a destination across a computer network. Think of them as the GPS for your data packets, constantly calculating and recalculating the most efficient routes through the complex web of interconnected devices that make up networks, including the vast global network we call the internet. Without routing protocols, data would be lost in transit, and the digital world as we know it would cease to function.
