May 1, 2024 4 minute read

Modeling and Simulation, or M&S, is a problem-solving process that involves the creation of a model of a system, and then using that model to simulate the system's behavior. Models can be used to analyze a system's behavior, to predict its future behavior, or to optimize its performance.

What is Modeling?

A model is a simplified representation of a real-world system. Models can be physical, mathematical, or computer-based. Physical models are made of solid materials, such as wood, plastic, or metal. Mathematical models are equations that describe the behavior of a system. Computer-based models are simulations that can be used to run experiments on the model.
