Stencils are flat sheets, typically made of plastic or metal, with holes cut into them to create a pattern. They are used to transfer a design onto a surface by applying paint or ink through the holes. Stencils have been used for centuries to create decorative designs on everything from pottery to textiles to walls.
History of Stencils
The earliest known stencils date back to the Neolithic period (10,000-4,000 BCE), and were used to create designs on pottery and cave walls. Stencils were also used in ancient Egypt, Greece, and Rome to create decorative designs on tombs, temples, and other buildings.
