Urban Economics is the study of the economics of cities. It examines the economic forces that shape cities, and the ways in which cities affect the economy. Urban economics is a subfield of economics that focuses on the application of economic principles to the analysis of urban areas. It is a relatively new field of study, with most of the research being conducted in the last 50 years. Urban economics is concerned with a wide range of issues, including:
Urban Land Use
Urban Economics examines the factors that determine the different uses of land. For example, why are some areas of a city used for residential purposes, while other areas are used for commercial or industrial purposes? Urban economics also examines the factors that determine the price of land. Land prices are often much higher in urban areas than in rural areas. This is due to the scarcity of land in urban areas and the high demand for land for development.
