Conductors are materials that allow the flow of electric current. They are used in a wide variety of applications, from electrical wiring to computer chips. The study of conductors is a fundamental part of electrical engineering and physics.
What is a Conductor?
A conductor is a material that contains mobile charge carriers, which are electrons that are not bound to any particular atom. When an electric field is applied to a conductor, these charge carriers move freely, allowing current to flow. The conductivity of a material is a measure of its ability to conduct electric current.
Conductors are classified into two types: metals and electrolytes. Metals are the best conductors, with high conductivity and low resistance. Electrolytes are solutions that contain ions, which are atoms or molecules that have lost or gained electrons. Ions can move freely in solution, allowing electrolytes to conduct electric current.
