Advanced Encryption Standard (AES), also known as Rijndael, is a symmetric block cipher algorithm that operates on 128-bit blocks and supports key sizes of 128, 192, and 256 bits. It was developed by Joan Daemen and Vincent Rijmen and was adopted by the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) in 2001 as the United States Federal Information Processing Standard (FIPS) 197.
