Shared Responsibility is a cloud computing model in which the cloud provider and the customer share responsibility for the security and management of data and applications in the cloud. Customers are responsible for securing their own applications and data, while cloud providers are responsible for securing the infrastructure that supports the cloud services.
Shared Responsibility Matrix
The Shared Responsibility Matrix is a framework that defines the specific responsibilities of cloud providers and customers for each cloud service. The matrix is divided into three sections:
-
Infrastructure: The cloud provider is responsible for securing the infrastructure that supports the cloud services, including the physical servers, network, and storage.
-
Platform: The cloud provider is responsible for securing the operating system, middleware, and other platform components that support the cloud services.
-
Application: The customer is responsible for securing the applications that run in the cloud, including the code, data, and configuration.
Benefits of Shared Responsibility
Shared Responsibility offers a number of benefits to customers, including:
-
Reduced cost: Customers only pay for the cloud services they use, and they do not have to invest in the infrastructure to support the cloud services.
-
Increased flexibility: Customers can scale their cloud services up or down as needed, and they can choose from a variety of cloud services to meet their specific needs.
-
Improved security: Cloud providers have a strong incentive to secure their infrastructure, as it is the foundation of their business. Customers can benefit from this investment in security by using cloud services.
