He claimed to have found a series of mathematical formulas, or sutras, within these texts that formed a complete system of mathematics.
However, this origin story is a subject of significant debate and criticism within academic and mathematical circles. Scholars and mathematicians who have examined the historical record note that the specific sutras presented by Tirthaji are not found in any known version of the Vedas. In the foreword to Tirthaji's book, the editor, V. S. Agrawala, himself acknowledged that the claim of Vedic origin was unsupported and that the sutras could not be located in the original texts. Critics also point out that the system includes concepts like decimals, which were not known during the Vedic period.
