Business Connectivity Services (BCS) is a feature in SharePoint that allows you to connect to and work with data from external systems, such as databases, web services, and other applications. This can be useful for a variety of purposes, such as creating reports, dashboards, and other applications that integrate data from different sources.
How BCS Works
BCS works by using a set of connectors that allow you to connect to different types of external systems. Once you have created a connection, you can then use BCS to query the data from the external system and use it in your SharePoint applications.
BCS can be used to connect to a variety of different types of external systems, including:
- Databases, such as SQL Server, Oracle, and MySQL
- Web services, such as SOAP and REST
- Other applications, such as SAP and Salesforce
