Fracture Management
Fracture management is a branch of medicine that deals with the diagnosis and treatment of fractures. A fracture is a break in a bone, and it can occur due to a variety of reasons, such as trauma, falls, or osteoporosis. Fracture management involves immobilizing the fractured bone, reducing pain and inflammation, and promoting healing. The goal of fracture management is to restore the bone to its normal alignment and function as quickly and safely as possible.
Types of Fractures
There are many different types of fractures, and they can be classified based on their location, severity, and the type of bone that is broken. Some of the most common types of fractures include:
- Closed fractures: These are fractures in which the skin is not broken. Closed fractures are usually less severe than open fractures.
- Open fractures: These are fractures in which the skin is broken and the bone is exposed. Open fractures are more serious than closed fractures, as they can lead to infection.
- Displaced fractures: These are fractures in which the broken bone fragments are out of alignment. Displaced fractures can be more difficult to treat than non-displaced fractures.
- Non-displaced fractures: These are fractures in which the broken bone fragments are in alignment. Non-displaced fractures are usually less severe than displaced fractures.
- Greenstick fractures: These are fractures in which the bone is bent but not completely broken. Greenstick fractures are most common in children.
- Stress fractures: These are fractures that occur due to repeated stress on the bone. Stress fractures are common in athletes.
