Power System Consultants are responsible for ensuring that power systems are efficient, reliable, and compliant with all applicable regulations. Consultants in this role may have earned undergraduate or graduate degrees in electrical engineering or a closely related field. They may also hold professional certifications such as the Professional Engineer (PE) license. Power System Consultants specializing in electrical engineering must develop expertise in how to design, install, maintain, and operate power systems, including the generation, transmission, and distribution of electricity over power lines and cables. A Power System Consultant may work with multiple utility and industrial clients in addition to consulting engineering firms. Some work full-time at a client’s facility whereas others may work as an independent consultant.
