VP of IT
Vice president of IT (VP of IT) is the title given to an executive-level professional in charge of all an organization's information technology (IT) resources, such as computer systems, networks, and data. VPs of IT collaborate with other members of an organization's senior leadership to develop and implement strategies that support the organization's goals. They also represent the IT perspective during strategic planning discussions.
Responsibilities
VPs of IT are responsible for:
- Developing and implementing IT strategies that align with the organization's overall business goals
- Managing the organization's IT budget
- Hiring, training, and managing IT staff
- Sourcing and evaluating new technologies
- Ensuring that the organization's IT systems are secure and reliable
Education and Experience
VPs of IT typically have a bachelor's or master's degree in computer science, information systems, or a related field. They also have several years of experience in IT management roles. Many VPs of IT also have certifications from professional organizations, such as the CompTIA or the Information Systems Audit and Control Association (ISACA).
Skills
VPs of IT need to have strong technical skills, as well as strong leadership and communication skills. They also need to be able to think strategically and to understand the organization's business goals.
