Certified Patient Safety Professional (CPSP)
Patient Safety Professionals strive to ensure every aspect of the patient experience is as safe as possible. Grounded in the belief that preventing harm within the healthcare sector is both a legal obligation and a moral imperative, Certified Patient Safety Professionals (CPSPs) work to ensure safety culture is embedded across all stages of patient care provision.
Responsibilities of a CPSP
CPSPs are responsible for improving the quality and safety of patient care within a healthcare organization. They work with healthcare professionals to identify and mitigate risks, and develop and implement patient safety programs. CPSPs also provide education and training on patient safety to healthcare professionals and patients.
Patient Care Oversight
Patient care remains at the heart of what CPSPs stand for. Patient safety professionals help to promote patient safety by participating in activities such as:
- Patient safety risk assessments
- Implementation of patient safety programs
- Patient safety training
- Patient safety investigation
CPSPs also work closely with other healthcare professionals, such as physicians, nurses, and pharmacists, to improve patient care and reduce patient risk.
Safety Management
CPSPs have the challenge of creating and leading healthcare safety management programs. In doing so, they are tasked with the following:
- Developing and implementing patient safety policies
- Leading patient safety committees
- Conducting patient safety audits
- Evaluating patient safety data
