Rigging Artist
Rigging artists are responsible for creating and maintaining the 3D skeletons that allow animated characters to move. They work closely with animators to ensure that the characters move fluidly and realistically.
Responsibilities
The responsibilities of a rigging artist can vary depending on the size and structure of the animation studio. In general, however, the job requires a strong understanding of anatomy, physics, and computer graphics.
Some of the common responsibilities of a rigging artist include:
- Creating 3D skeletons for animated characters
- Weighting the skeletons so that they move fluidly and realistically
- Fixing and debugging rigging problems
- Working with animators to ensure that the characters move according to the animator's vision
Skills
Rigging artists need to have a strong understanding of anatomy, physics, and computer graphics. They also need to be proficient in 3D modeling software and animation software. In addition, rigging artists often need to have a strong understanding of programming and scripting, so that they can write custom code to solve complex rigging problems.
Education
Most rigging artists have a bachelor's degree in computer graphics or a related field. However, some rigging artists may also have a degree in a field such as engineering or physics. In addition to formal education, rigging artists often also need to have experience with 3D modeling and animation software. Many rigging artists also take online courses or workshops to learn more about the latest rigging techniques.
