We will begin by developing your understanding of the general concept of leadership, creating a base from which to consider leadership issues in healthcare. Following this theoretical outline, we will discuss different applications of leadership across a range of healthcare settings. This will include the important dimension of patient and public leadership, often neglected in healthcare organisations, which we will illustrate through case study examples and video interviews with patient leaders. We will also explore the need for leadership on the front line from clinicians, enhancing your understanding of the potential for innovation and improvement when driven by clinicians, whilst also considering the barriers to this involvement.
