What people are saying

easy to follow

I like the step by step explanations which made it easy to follow, I also bought the Premier Class also.

The teacher is so well-prepared and the lessons are very easy to follow.

Very easy to follow and excellently put together.

There is good detail easy to follow and just enough information in each segment Really well made course.

Good stuff to learn or refresh your skills More projects could be helpful as it is a application based course The course is easy to follow.

I know little about the subject and i feel he is doing a good job taking from my limited position and knowledge everything is on point So far this course is very easy to follow along with and the instructor is very knowledgable of his subject matter.

Because the beautiful chorus Great class The guys are good and they know what they are talking about and make this easy to follow The instructor speaks very clearly, has a pace that's easy to follow and the material is pretty simple.

The way the lectures are presented are amazing, they're easy to follow and in bite sized pieces.

for example

For example in the frame rate session, it would have been helpful if it had some kind of visual.

I HAVE AN ISSUES WHILE RECORDING WITH MY 7D BUT WHY I TOOK THE COURSE ?BECAUSE PHIL SAID IN THE INTRODUCTION VIDEO "I WILL BE TEACHING PEOPLE HOW TO USE THEIR OWN DSLRS" BUT MOST OF THE COURSE WAS RELATED TO CINEMA CAMERA, SOMETHING ELSE I DIDN'T LIKE WAS THE LACK OF WORKSHOPS, FOR EXAMPLE I HAVE TOOK MANY FREE COURSES WITH PHIL AND IT WAS EVEN BETTER THAN THIS ONE BECAUSE IT WAS FULL OF PRACTICE AND EXAMPLES, I DIDN'T SEE AN OPERATING DSLR CAMERA ALL THE COURSE LONG, I STILL CANT RESOLVE ISSUES RELATED TO MY 7D DURING RECORDING, THOUGHT THERE WILL BE A SOLUTION BUT STILL THE SAME, ANY WAYS I AM SURE PHIL HAS BETTER TO GIVE.

I would just suggest for you guys to use more images and footage especifically of what you're saying, for example show an image of the camera you're talking about, or a short cartoon showing what happens inside the camera when we change the ISO or the shutter speed.

For example, I'm assuming again, that most people taking this class are at least somewhat new.. having a Cinema Camera with button presets for white balance is unrealistic.

For example, advising people to network or to enter film festivals is nice, but anyone involved with film would want to do those things already.

When talking about work on a set, for example, they could have provided shots of themselves on a set for one of their films or videos.

Shot sizes, for example, it would be much easier to film someone (even the instructor himself).

For example, when doing a documentary or a narrative film, is there any recommendation regarding specific situations?

rather than

However I was hoping for more industry professional insights rather than basic concepts that can be learned from a variety of easily accessible sources.

It'd be nice to see more content that explains things a bit more rather than glossing over it as tips (ie: choosing your frame size, walking through a specific example in more detail, etc.)

I would have liked more demonstrations rather than just discussing certin subjects.

Visual volume control, rather than changing the sensitivity of the sensor aren't you actually just internally boosting the signal from each pixel?

I also think that there should be more graphics to help illustrate some of the concepts of rather than Will just using his hands to try and explain things.

film school

I never went to film school but i was very lucky to have family in the industry who made me learn by doing.I'm a director/ screenwriter professionally and though I knew alot of this, I never wanted to do the camera work out of some sort of fear that photography and what i was taught wasnt enough.

I was hoping this course could suppliment film school or something like that but also get into some deep stuff regardinh cinematography.

As an amateur film director who never went to film school, never worked in a professional set, and has very little cinematography knowledge, I found the whole course too basic, and I finally gave up after chapter 5.
