This course covers the key elements of empathy, why it's important, and how to integrate core empathy elements in your personal and professional life. In this course, we’ll take time to deep dive into four key things around empathy:

Overview of the course and welcome
In this section, we will define empathy and why it's important to understand and practice it on a continuous basis.
Remembering to use empathy and being self-aware.
In this section, we'll talk about how empathy allows you to build stronger human connections, develop a higher level of emotional awareness, and encourage safe and transparent communication.
There are three key challenges with empathy, remembering to do it, recognizing when you are not in the right place, and understanding the difference between empathy and sympathy. We'll talk through each of them and review the impacts.
For this exercise, we'll pull together a little of what we’ve learned in the last few lectures.
Where does empathy come from and what are the three types of empathy?
In this section, we'll address cognitive empathy, which is the desire to understand their point of view and the situation.
In this section, we'll address emotional empathy, which is the desire to feel what the other person is feeling.
In this section, we'll address compassionate empathy, which is the desire to support and help the other person.
In this exercise, we'll work through situations where you may or may not have applied the three types of empathy and how you might apply them in the future.
In this section, we'll walk through empathic listening, what it is and why it's important.
While knowing and understanding empathy is important, pulling together empathy and empathetic listening is key to elevating connection and trust.
This section will cover the three key A's of empathetic listening, attitude, attention, and adjustment.
For this activity, we'll pull from previous exercises and apply empathetic listening.
In this section, we'll address the time and space you might need to think before responding.
Making some space to consider responses can help increase empathy. Let's explore why it's important.
In this section, we'll walk through how our brain works under stress including our response and the response of the person we’re interacting with.
Once we understand how our brain naturally reacts, we'll talk through what we can do to recognize these emotions and reign them in.
What we can do is be aware of how we’re responding and how we can be supportive.
Review of the course overall and moving forward.
Final reflection exercise and creating accountability moving forward.
