The CFM Exam consists of 180 multiple-choice questions delivered in random order. There are 20 pretest items which do not apply towards exam results and 160 exam items. All questions have a single answer. There are no pre-set sections. The test is strictly pass/fail based on the total number of correct answers. Candidates may mark questions they wish to skip and return to later. In addition, at the end of the exam candidates will be alerted to any questions which have not been answered. If time allows, candidates may return to complete those questions. At the present time, the exam is offered in English only. Candidates are allowed to use scratch paper
during the exam session. Candidates taking the exam in a test center must turn in the scratch paper prior to leaving the exam appointment. Candidates taking the exam via remote proctoring must present both sides of the paper to the proctor before and after the exam administration to ensure no information or test content is present.
Appointments are scheduled for 5 hours to provide ample time for the tutorial, etc., but when the actual exam begins, the timer will count down from 4 hours. There are no scheduled breaks. Fifteen minutes have been added to the 3.75-hour testing period to allow examinees to take “bio breaks” as needed. Please note that the timer will continue to run.
