A certain amount of disruption to your working day probably cannot be avoided, so plan for it.

If you work from home, then train family and friends to respect your work hours.

You will learn a number of strategies on how politely and assertively to draw the line with people who contantly interrupt you face-to-face.

In this lecture you are invited to think about the face-to-face interruptions you experience.

An excellent time management approach is to categorize each interruption according to it's:

  • degree of urgency... and/or 
  • degree of importance.

This will help you decide on the course of action you should take.

It is important to be aware that, depending on who is interrupting you, you may need to welcome the interruption.

There are many strategies for controlling face-to-face interruptions; in this lecture some of the more popular approaches are shared so that you can take on board the one's you think would work best for you.

There is a relationship between personalities and communication styles. Understanding personality styles plus an awareness of the personality of the interrupter will help you decide how best to handle the interruption.
