Introduction

I've got no doubts you're looking forward to joining this course and learning everything about Data Loss Prevention (DLP). But before we get started, in this lecture I'm going to do a little introduction about myself then walk through the curriculum of this course so you'll know exactly what your learning outcomes will be.

What is DLP? In this lecture we're going to cover the definition of DLP and walk through the differences between Data Loss Prevention and Data Leak Prevention. We're also going to explore some of the strengths and weaknesses of DLP when trying to enhance data security within an organization.

Many large companies have developed their own DLP program to manage and enforce DLP policies across their organization. In this lecture I'm going to show you a best-practice DLP Operating Model that's been used in real life and how it's used to implement DLP and improve data security. You may find it useful for applying it in your own organization too!

Now that we've covered what a DLP program looks like, how would we know its successful? In this lecture we're going to walk through a DLP Maturity Model that will help you identify where you are in your own DLP program and the steps you need to take to improve it within your own security team or organization.

Most DLP tools have six types of enforcement policies built in. Do you know what they are? In this lecture we're going to walk through each enforcement policy and why they're used to either enforce or improve data security within an organization.

DLP tools have the ability to analyze data a number of ways. This lecture will describe the most commonly used data analysis techniques which will ultimately help you better understand the way DLP tools work, but more importantly, help you design your own DLP policies as part of your DLP program.

Understanding configuration types is one of the most important parts of this course. This lecture will describe how DLP tools use 'layers of detail' when looking for data and information matches. Understanding configuration types will likely improve the way you use DLP tools and how you configure them.

If you are leading a DLP program, or intend to, you will definitely find this lecture useful! In this lecture we're going to describe the best step-by-step method for creating the right DLP policies from the beginning. The processes described in this lecture can be used for any DLP program and will likely help you reduce complexity and facilitate better business and security outcomes.

In this lecture we're going to describe how DLP tools are installed and configured within an organization's environment. We're gong to describe the differences between forward and reverse proxy plus walk through a few other deployment options DLP tools also offer.

Did you know that 60%-70% of data breaches occur from inside the organization? This lecture is going to walk through how you can use a DLP tool to improve workforce security awareness which should be a critical objective of any DLP program.

There are a lot of great DLP tools out there on the market and some have excellent reporting capabilities. This lecture is going to describe the importance of Executive reporting and how to use a DLP tool to report on the status of security across an organization.

If you've been asked to choose or buy a DLP tool for your organization then you're absolutely going to find this lecture useful. I'm going to give you a checklist of the most important criteria for selecting a DLP tool. Hopefully my own experience here will save you a lot of time and effort!

This is the last lecture of the course! But before we go we're going to wrap up some of the key points we learned - and if you enjoyed the course then don't forget to check out my other courses here on Udemy!

In this section we're going to cover the most common uses cases when using a DLP tool. These are widely used by organizations when applying information security policies and monitoring user behaviour. By learning these use cases you'll have a strong grasp on how to extract the most value from a DLP tool and provide a better level of security protection to an organization. Don't forget to follow the lecture notes too! These are available as a downloadable resource in PDF from this lecture.

This lecture covers the exact information you should include in your CV before you submit it to a hiring manager. Finding a DLP Analyst role can be tough sometimes so you should find that this lecture may give your CV the boost it needs in order to help you stand out from the crowd.

I personally like to add a cover letter to my CVs to help them stand out and make an impression on a hiring manager. In this lecture I'm going to show you two real-life examples you can copy for your own CV cover letter.

Once you've been hired in an organization as a DLP Analyst you may want to start thinking about your career and that next promotion. This short lecture will provide some key tips to consider long-term as you start to embark on your cyber security journey.
