Arts Therapy - Arts Therapy For Self Healing (Part One)

We are one of the world's leading providers of Arts Therapy Courses, with more than 180,000 students in 192 countries.

Therapeutic Art: Online Therapeutic Art Course - Arts Therapy For Self Exploration and Healing

Art Therapy is an area that is being used in many different settings.  This is the first in the series of my Therapeutic Art / Arts Therapy courses, and can be enjoyed by everyone and by all ages. We cover various forms of arts therapy to help with self discovery, self healing and self discovery.

You don't need to be a great artist, or indeed consider yourself to be particularly creative.  All you need is an imagination and an open mind to get the most from this Therapeutic Art / Arts Therapy course.

We also offer an exclusive support service to Udemy students. On enrolment, you'll be given access to a fully supported learning experience which extends to personal support via email with the course creator, Riana van Staden. As previously stated, this is a bespoke service available to Udemy students only.

This Therapeutic Art online course (which looks at various arts therapy) is self paced and offers you complete flexibility. Choose to study at a time and place that suits you, safe in the knowledge that help is always at hand.

Within this Therapeutic Art online course, you'll find a section on arts therapy including self exploration and healing painful emotions, as well as a section for pure enjoyment and recreation.  You'll also find a section on therapeutic art for family bonding. This is great for better communication and an appreciation for each other, as you learn and create with one another.

Art and the therapeutic creative process of creating art, can be incredibly useful for children who may have experienced bullying or trauma and can provide a safe sanctuary to share our feelings and emotions.

Therapeutic Art can be described as being an expressive and creative, form of therapy, using arts therapy in its various forms.

The therapeutic, creative process of self expression, can improve our physical and mental health, as well as our emotional well being.

  • It helps us to manage our feelings in a more positive way

  • Can give us the confidence to address and resolve issues from the past and present

  • Increase self esteem and develop a greater self awareness

Creating art through Therapeutic Art, provides an outlet to express yourself freely, which will encourage and promote a healthier, happier life.

Did you know that colouring-in books for adults are outselling cook books? Colouring-in for just twenty minutes a day, can bring you enormous benefits, including:

  • A more relaxed state of mind

  • Lowering stress hormones

  • Help with insomnia

Therapeutic Art may sound a bit daunting, especially if you believe yourself not to be particularly artistic or creative. However, this need not be an issue, as the purpose of art is simply to express, and not to judge, or compare.

Art should be an extension of how you're feeling, and for that you are your own expert.

With over 50 exercises and activities, here are just a few included in this Therapeutic Art online course:

  • Scribble drawing for relaxation

  • Art Journalling

  • Collages

  • Create your own healing comic strip

  • Becoming your own superhero

  • Writing your pain a letter

  • A healing postcard

  • Spontaneous image diary

  • Affirmations cards

Please note that taking this course, doesn't qualify you as an art therapist.

even though

Although you do not have an art background for this course I have worked as a part time freelance artist for 30 years and even though I have knowledge of some of the techniques I am am fascinated on how art can be used to heal and to help with no judgement what so ever.

As such, the course is a fun journey of discovery of yourself, what's going on inside and how artistic you are (even though you didn't think you were!).

The course inspired me for my own personal and professional growth Even though the cartoon medium of the course felt a little impersonal at first, the course leader's compassion and interest in her subject really shines through.

Even though I am in my later thirties I had no idea how to male certain colours, so although it may be a basic lesson for others, for me it was very useful and really very fun to add to the bargain!

With a visual medium, even though the instructions are good, it helps to have a "real" visual representation.

Even though i found the artwork quite easy, there is so much information and detail surrounding the artwork which more than compensates for its easiness.

ive already got a stack of coloring in books but the activities included are a little more grown up even though they are very suitable for younger people also.

Your imagination can run riot and does feel good to be revisiting the aspect of creative play (even though I am on the wrong side of forty) Hee hee I really loved it <3 What a stress buster art therapy is :-) Can I have my certificate please?

Yes I found it fascnating even though I don't know anything about the arts and defunetly nor art therpy but it was simplfied and enjouable I am grateful I found this course.

FOUND THIS TO BE RATHER 'JOLLY' EVEN THOUGH IT IS INTENDED FOR THERAPUETIC REASONS GOING BY THE TITLE AT LEAST.

Even though I have taken different courses about expressive therapy techniques before, I feel this one has been really useful.

Even though I have not covered a lot of sections, I want to say that I really enjoy it.

We paint together each week and zendangles will be a new adventure I was fond of the notion I could use this as a family even though my children range in ages.

So, even though I am taking this course for personal growth, it's fascinating to see how a therapist might use these activities.

step by step

It is a course designed to take a step by step in a calm and serene way, which gives us the time to think, reflect and create.

This course was exceptional, very slow and compressive, step by step.

Thanks again Miss Libby I like the step by step descriptions of the colors and how they can relate to our emotions.

It's good for some extra work, you can pause it, you can go back, you can take notes..that's the biggest advantage, it's always here unlimited time you can step by step try every technique.

For the one who desires to use this process for their own healing, it's simplistic enough that they can understand and follow along with the instructor step by step.

Very enjoyable on the whole Its easy to understand and follow The introduction appears to lay a foundation for step by step learning.

For beginners it is step by step and easy to follow So far I am liking what I have heard and read I’m not totally absorbed in this yet but I’m sure I will be when I take the trouble and have the time to do it.

Brilint > easy > fun fab fun libby :> Clear step by step and easy to follow instructions, clear rationale, great visuals!

vision board

Amongst all the things I learned the loved these the most : vision board, emotional colour wheel and Zendalas (order+chaos) - although all the activities were awesome!

This is a first class course thank you so so much I especially enjoyed the mandala and vision board exercises.

I want to start a vision board but have it as a feature wall in my kitchen.

I read one of the reviews which said about a vision board for their family on a grander scale and I am so hijacking this idea too!

I have found some sound ideas to take forth my new found creative outlet, such as vision boards.

creative therapy is a wonderful outlet and i enjoyed exploring some fun stuff that i havent used efore I am so excited about starting my vision board and have decided that am going to devote it just to 2016 and everything I want to achieve and accomplish in this year.

The theory and reasoning of why people might do a vision board and the benefits was extraordinary.

Thank you Cathartic and beautiful Compelling theory on creating vision boards Very exceptional in the concept of coloring You have taught me something i didnt know how to do before.

At my age, I know who I am and I have used a vision board with great success minus one item which I am still working on.

Easy to follow Loving the vision board I like it so far.

five stars

I left a full score of five stars about an hour and half ago whilst only having done about 15 lectures and now I've done all the course I wish i could give ten stars.

I have been a student for libby other art course which I also awarded top five stars.

Definitely a worthy five stars from me.

Big blessings to you for an amazing course <3 I started out giving it five stars and I still feel the same in fact the course is getting better and better.

I give this course five stars because, as a brain injury survivor and someone who now lives with chronic pain and fatigue illness: 1.The low price has made it accessible to me.

Was heading for a 3.5 star to begin with but got better and better and so that's why I decided on the five stars Good introduction and practical work starts straight away Yes Really liked the exercise , have done it before but didn't know it's called Zentangle.

Luckily I am enjoying the course so based on that I can give five stars but will need to review it properly Well-paced and clear I learned some new fun things and realized that I need to relax more LOL LOL brilliant exercises for beginners It was an interesting start to doing something creative that involved body awareness.

scribble drawing

I also discovered the child in me through scribble drawing (scribbling and colouring the spaces in) although I didn't know it was called that when I last did it as a child - I just loved drawing swirls and circles and using what I had to colour in.

I liked that it switched to varying styles of mediums of art and includes writing as well as some humble methods like scribble drawing and doodling.

I saw only a few days ago a show on tv and there was a chap who made a living from scribble drawing art.

The scribble drawing exercise i thoroughly embraced.

The scribble drawings were therapy based and got lost in them lol A great tip Libby shared in her webinar was to do a mandala an hour before going to bed and you will notice the difference in your sleep quality.

Its light hearted and not too high brow which actually was its appeal Its great to use as a little pick me up and some of the exercises can be done in minutes (I lurved lurved lurved the scribble drawing activity) Something for everyone and for all ages!

Scribble drawing exercise is fantastic to do before bedtime GRET THAX Yes, I like it a lot More actual demo will be better Fond of it ±±± Engaging so faar simple but so profound and amazing It's simple but very healthy and beautiful.

I have spent quite some time just on scribble drawings and it really helped to de stress me.

I am slipping back into my anxious frame of mind and I think it is to do with christmas coming up because it is a lonely time for me and I am aware of becoming caught up in negative anxious thoughts and simple scribble drawing is proving to be helpful so far!

this course has opened my eyes to the amazing potential of arts and crafts as a therapeutic tool This course was very informative and an eye opener to the positive effects that art therapy can have on a person.

you won't be disappointed This is an excellent online course for anyone with even the smallest interest in the therapy using arts and crafts.

I cannot wait for the grandchildren to visit at the w/end so we can share some quality time with our arts and crafts :) I appreciate you must have many students whose learning styles are different to my own and some wont speak english as their native tongue.

Wonderful to exorcise a bit of TLC and for me its arts and crafts every time.

affirmation cards

This includes a vision board (A way for us to keep sight of what we desire to achieve in life), spontaneous image diary (By selecting an image and writing a sentence about it in our diaries, we learn about what we are thinking in a visual way on a regular basis), scribble drawing (Gives us a way to unwind, break through judgment, and helps us learn the meditative qualities of coloring), emotions wheel (Is a wheel of colors where we record our feelings and how they relate to one another), paint your emotions (Aids us in expressing a certain emotion of the artist's choosing through color and line variation), affirmation cards (Helps us develop our self esteem by giving us a reminder to focus on self compassion whenever or wherever we might be feeling down on ourselves), writing yourself a love letter (A letter to ourselves that is full of appreciation of everything that makes us us), writing your pain a letter (We can gain insight into self healing by speaking to our emotional pain in a letter asking what we can do to alleviate our pain), self portrait (We look in the mirror and paint ourselves exactly as we are.

Wild horses could not have kept me from finishing it, it was spectacular Miss Libby ***** { { That's five stars for you right there } } Because I have enjoyed the what I’ve learned I really enjoyed this course and felt I learned many things I will use going forward, it was simple and easy to follow with downloads of templates and resources throughout, I especially loved the 'writing a letter to your younger self' and affirmation cards.

As the artistic and creative soul, I liked the part of the 'MANDALAS' and 'AFFIRMATION CARDS', so I'm sure i will try to do something about it.To me art is the best form of expression ourself.

:-) i thought this part 1 better than part 2 because it was more therapy baed focussed Affirmation cards are a firm favourite to use when I need a little tlc.

The affirmation cards are useful and transferable.

The affirmation cards are so cool .
