Este código es un número único para tener una identificación no ambigua e inequívoca de cualquier objeto , especialmente aquellos que requieren ser transportados a lo largo de la red de valor.

Dentro de un circuito integrado denominado T _ ag _ se almacena este número único y los _T ags _ se pueden leer a través de sistemas de radiofrecuencia RFID ( en español Identificación por Radiofrecuencia y en inglés Radio Frequency Identification).

Dentro de este código electrónico se puede almacenar una gran cantidad de información incluso mayor a la que se guarda en un código de barras, por ejemplo, fecha de fabricación, lugar de fabricación, fecha de vencimiento, longitud, grosor, etc.
