Acumen Presents

A carefully crafted talk can be the key to unlocking empathy, stirring excitement, spreading knowledge, and promoting a shared dream. As the Head of TED, Chris Anderson knows this firsthand. He’s had a ringside seat listening to many hundreds of amazing TED speakers including people like Sir Ken Robinson, Amy Cuddy, Bill Gates, Elizabeth Gilbert, Salman Khan, Amanda Palmer, and Monica Lewinsky whose talks have been viewed millions of times. He’s learned that a talk done right can electrify a room and transform an audience’s worldview.

In this course, you’ll get a behind-the-scenes look at what it takes to use public speaking to share powerful ideas. Chris will walk you through real-life examples of TED Talks that worked and also share firsthand stories of mistakes to avoid. You’ll get a series of worksheets and exercises to plan your own talk that draws from Chris’s latest book TED Talks: The Official TED Guide to Public Speaking. Whether you are an entrepreneur pitching a company, a nonprofit professional making a fundraising request, or a teacher looking to captivate your students, this course will help you become a powerful public speaker capable of leaving a lasting impression. After completing this course, you’ll be ready to structure your own talk and deliver it memorably to an audience.

What people are saying

public speaking

This is recycled concept in public speaking.

This is a great basic introduction to public speaking, planning your speech, tools for giving a speech, and a few methods to get past the fear of speaking.

Yes - I am enjoying the tips and tricks of what to do and not do in the world of Public Speaking which I love speaking and teaching others The course was structured well.

No, thought the course was about general public speaking and not a Ted Talk style presentation.

First time I feel its a advance level course of public speaking Chris Anderson was an excellent presenter; informal, conversational, knowledgeable.

This is really a very practical guide on public speaking!

an actionable guide to getting started in public speaking.

This course gives you tremendous tools to share your ideas through public speaking.

I was very satisfied with my course, it help to open more my ideas to be able to chose my niche to begin on the public speaking world.

However, from what I remember, overall, for a someone whose normally only gone on stage prepared with a memorized repertoire of music, I have found that public speaking has always come with a heightened sense of nervousness, not sure whether I'm doing something right or wrong, and an increased potential of going off track.

Also, he stressed the most important point in public speaking, do you have something important to say?

I learned more about public speaking in this one short course than I have from any other resource that I have used.

Chris Anderson is a master explainer and an undisputed authority in the art of public speaking.

I've been public speaking regularly for several years but these were still great reminders and I found ways I can become more effective.

ted talk

Plenty of notes taken little applicable content until this point, too much focus on ted talk format Yes, in fact, it was a great idea to start such a beautiful program.

I loved how Chris brought in other clips of previous TED talks to prove his points perfectly and use real-world examples!

This course was easy to navigate, interesting to watch and left me with amazing tools to create my TED talk!

I love the fact had some TED TALKS links to be able to relate the examples given by the moderator also the pdf documents with tips to keep track of your talk, but I wish the course could have been a little bit longer to get some more out of Mr Anderson experience.

awesome, more inline examples would be good... pulling more specific bits from the resources rather then just go watch this whole ted talk would be good... overall, I thought it was a great course, nice and concise.... thanks I found the whole presentation very interesting and inspiring.

Having done two TEDx talks already, and now planning a third, i found great inspiration in Chris Andersen's audio and Kindle book on TED Talks Official Guide to Public Speaking.

This course realy covers all the basics of public speaking in a really well structured way with impressive examples taken from various TED Talks.

I love watching the TED talks which explain the key point that is being addressed.

I just did my first TED talk at TEDxPSUBerks and really wished I found this video before I did my talk.

The tools described in the course are perfect for crafting your TED talk.

Interesting, insightful, with plenty of TED talk examples.

Ler o livro TED Talks fará você entender tudo o que o curso explica, de uma forma mais aprofundada.

Well done I love TED Talks - been a fan for years.

But until then, I will strive to make every talk I give a TED Talk.

ted talks

On a personal note, I'd like to thank you Chris for your vision and your work to bring TED Talks to the world.

I've learned more in TED Talks than I ever learned in college.

He speaks from a place of great experience, having founded the successful Ted Talks series that has been so influential and entertaining.

Looking forward to doing more research by going over to Ted Talks and seeing more of the most popular talks.

I would have loved to see more examples of specific parts of TED talks to get a better feel for the point being made.

The extra half star, for me, would have been earned by giving us more clips from actual TED talks.

The examples from other Ted Talks helped a lot, impressive.

;o) Simple but well communicated and makes sense after seeing many Ted talks Can easily relate to how to construct an effective talk, confirming that I'm on the right track of being able to give a talk and engage the audience.

Mr. Anderson's experience with Ted Talks gives him effective knowledge in communication.

por el dominio del tema y la claridad de exposición Chris and his articulation clearly tells me why TED Talks are most watched videos in the world.

Wish i had waited as thats a BIG discount and I feel a little cheated, but hey ho, he deserves it as i have watched quite a few Ted talks for free, especially the first Ken Robinson one - Awesome.

It has been useful to see clips from TED talks to illustrate.

I liked the links to some TED talks, and there could have been more of that, perhaps more examples.

For people who have not watched a lot of TED talks already, more clips would be helpful, especially to illustrate visuals and the development of the ideas, such as Hans Rosling's slides, and also to help speakers determine subtopics and their supporting evidence.

Chris gave bite size information that was practical yet important pertaining tot he topic.

I love the delivery of this course: snall bite size videos and useful worksheets.

My high rating is because it is broken down each issue into bite size portions and made them appear to be really simple and achievable I've learned a lot about how to pick an idea and how to structure a talk from this course.

It is well organized, easy to follow and super interseting simple bite size bits of info that are easy to digest and immediately makes me want the next step.

mr. anderson

Mr. Anderson's message is simple and to the point.

Blessings to Mr. Anderson.

Mr. Anderson has a unique vantage point from which to construct this course.

I'm not sure it would help the novice as much, although it has great foundational value for someone thinking about doing a talk, I just gave my talk today after going through Mr. Anderson's course.

I am speaking in public this week and didn't have time to read Mr. Anderson's book on Public Speaking, but this course has been a teaching resource, and the practical applications have been useful.

Mr. Anderson models, of course, clarity and connection as he presents this material.

I think this course was just what I wanted Mr. Anderson gives clean, concise points that can be applied immediately.

Mr. Anderson is easy to listen to and gives good examples.

Common sense approach with good tips on relating to the audience, and on how to let the audience help you with your best delivery.

Great practical set of common sense tools and advise.

Feels as though a great deal of what I'm learning is common sense.

The content is common sense, but it is also presented in a way that inspires practicality as well as creativity.

clear, concise, common sense highly relevant to me I am feeling that I am gaining a clear understanding of how to design a good talk from scratch.

He seems nice, but what he has said so far is simple common sense.

Easy to understand , I have learned so much Some good, common sense ideas on building a talk.

look forward

I've been introducing most of what he says to my own clients for years so to this point it has been more confirmation than revelation Also look forward to seeing if one half of the one-hour you advertised is going to be time I'm supposed to spend thinking of my big idea; it that's true then for people like me who actually already have a strong topic your description is false advertising I have thoroughly enjoyed this course.

I look forward to my TED talk!

Thanks for the information so ar and I look forward to more "Pearls".

I look forward to hear more so that I can provide a more definitive rating.

I look forward to the tools and part on how to build my talk.

look forward to diving in more depth Short and no info.

rather than

While some of the elements of what I have to share is simply "information" that must be shared, I now have some great ideas to make it a more interesting experience rather than simply a case of participants ticking off an activity on the check list.

So that's the other 50% of the course, but that's really up to me :) This course was helpful for knowing what things to have thought through, and how to prepare for a talk, in a way that is tangible rather than just magical or luck based.

Chris Anderson is speaking to me, it seems, rather than to everyone.

Nice and snappy, quality rather than quatity.

I'd like to see examples rather than Chris sitting there talking at me Il corso e' diviso in sessioni che hanno una chiara direzione, e un progetto, sono corte e hanno contenuti chiari ed efficaci.

would love to see more slides or examples rather than the teacher him self the whole time.
