The course is an introduction to the main areas of Administrative Law and is aimed at students, academics, civil servants and anyone who is interested in finding out how public administration works in Italy, what Administrative Laws and how it has evolved over time. The course makes it clear why the study of Administrative Law needs to be combined with economic analysis, an understanding of other branches of Law and a good grounding in history. The ten lessons cover the subject-matter as well as method, from the evolution of Administrative Law to reflections on globalization, to the effects of the economic crisis, the relationship between public and private, the history of Italian Administration, the administrative system post-Giannini, recent reforms and future prospects. The structure reflects that of the book “Administrative Law: a conversation” (Cassese-Torchia, 2014), and has the same general aim «to provide the curious, but not necessarily specialist, reader with a basic understanding of the workings, direction and cycle of one of the most important branches of contemporary law».
