"Josie has so much experience in Pilates, Yoga and Fitness industry and she shares her extensive knowledge very generously. Her lectures and materials are very clear and the way she gives instructions is very precise. Josie has always been very supportive and approachable.  A teacher like her is hard to find and there is always so much to learn."  Justina Kaselionyte

Pilates has proved to be one of the most useful forms of exercise I've learned in the 40 years I've been actively interested in health and fitness.  It's helped from a technique point of view with everything else I teach and seeing the difference it's made to my clients health and wellbeing has been particularly rewarding.

Simply helping clients correct their posture can improve or even cure many health issues including back problems, stress incontinence, preparation for/recovery after childbirth, arthritis and other joint problems, recovery and prevention of injuries, improved mental wellbeing and of course, a fit, strong, flexible body.

  • Well, there is the obvious benefit of distance learning so that you can fit the training in with your lifestyle and commitments.

  • The cost: you can take this training at a fraction of the fees charged by other training organisations, but don't be fooled: this is not an easy option. You must pass 2 final exams.

  • It is accredited and fulfils all requirements for a CPD training course which means it has reached the required Continuing Professional Development standards and benchmarks. The learning value has been scrutinised to ensure integrity and quality.  You will be given the opportunity to receive a CPD certificate at the end of the course.  Please watch the free preview lecture 4 for more information on CPD.

  • There is also the opportunity to progress to Certification for those who require it.  Video assessments and lesson plans required*.  Please note that this is entirely optional and separate from Udemy.  Please watch the free preview lecture 5 for further details.

  • The content covers all the subjects recommended by the PMA, the UK level 3 guidelines specific to Pilates teacher training and is extremely thorough.  Please watch free preview lecture 3 for Rules & Regulations.

  • I am always available to support you.

  • The course is mostly high quality video content with supporting documentation to which you have lifetime access.

  • There are plenty of assignments and suggested practices to help you achieve your goals.

This course is ideal

  • for anyone who wants to set up a business as a Pilates Matwork teacher

  • fitness instructors and personal trainers who would also like to offer Pilates (free preview lecture 3 essential viewing)

  • students who want an in-depth knowledge of Pilates

  • therapists and health care workers who want to add new skills to help their clients

"I absolutely LOVED this course. As a physiotherapist, it was wonderful to see detailed descriptions of the anatomical structures required for each exercise, as well as the physiological benefits. I am so excited to incorporate teaching into my practice, and have already been teaching daily classes to friends and family free of charge. Thank you so much for the useful resources as well :)"  Amanda Anne Neri

All you need to take this course is a laptop (or any mobile device), a mat and a desire to learn a discipline that will improve yours and your clients or future clients health and wellbeing.

*   Certification carries an extra fee to cover trainers time.

Course Aims & Objectives

Some information on this extremely confusing subject!

Some useful information on Certification - please watch

Please watch the video - hit pause if it moves too fast!  Below are some of links to which I refer for each of use.  Let me know if you have any other questions or problems and I'm happy to help - always available : )

Please download the resources that accompany this lecture

This is the most important concept you will teach so practice as often as possible until you have a clear understanding yourself.

  • What is neutral position?

  • Where are the core muscles?

  • What is thoracic/lateral breathing?

  • Understand the connection between the breath and core muscles

  • Understand how to engage the core and stabilise the spine and pelvis

Practice as often as possible even if you are an advanced practitioner.  Taking it back to basics and really getting mind and body connected can make even what we perceive as being simply quite a challenge.

Even if you have experience of Pilates, this course is based on the Classical Mat Sequence so please at least watch these next three videos to gain an understanding of how the practice evolves.

  • For those who have already done my New Body course this is revision;

  • for those new to Pilates this is your opportunity to build a strong personal practice whilst you continue to study the course;

  • for those with Pilates experience this is a great way to remind yourselves of where you started!

You must be an expert practitioner to take your clients safely to the advanced options and be able to demonstrate with perfect technique.

We cover a lot of anatomy & physiology in this section, some of it is recorded and some in manuals and other resources so please check to see what's available.

Have a plan!  There's more to this than you think.

Why is planning a sequence important? What ways can it be done? Is using the classical Matwork sequence a good idea? Get the answers here.

Masterclass: some ideas for a seated warm-up and a sequence using flexibility as the focus. Tips on ensuring that the warm-up prepares the clients for what's to come and how to adapt each exercise for all the different levels of ability.

The warm up is on all fours which works very well with strength exercises such as push ups, planks and prone positions.

Starting the class on your back leads into core strength exercises perfectly. It's a lovely way to end a class, too, ready for some relaxation.

Ideas for a sequence following a standing warm up.

Who you can and shouldn't be teaching.

Pilates is really about correcting muscle imbalances and improving posture.  This overview will introduce you to what it actually is and how poor posture can have such a negative impact on life.

By far the biggest issue you will encounter as a Pilates teacher.

An introduction to the most common faulty posture types and which exercises are the most useful to help correct them.

This is where posture begins!  Simply "being on top" of your feet can make all the difference.

Keep you and your clients safe.
