Welcome to Jazz for the Curious Guitarist. If you're ready to play real jazz guitar, then this course is for you. You'll go from the basics of guitar playing to a high level of jazz in which you'll have knowledge of all chords that exist, basic & advanced scales, arpeggios, rhythm, and music & guitar theory.

We'll start the course assuming that you're a complete beginner. The first section of the course - Guitar Basics - is all about teaching you the guitar basics to get you ready for the jazz lessons.

There are eight sections in this course: Guitar Basics, Beginner, Novice, Intermediate, Advanced, Expert, Jazz Bonus Lessons, & Backing Tracks which total over 14 hours of video content.

The Jazz Bonus Lessons section is made up of lessons that were added to this course after it was originally published, and will also include all future jazz guitar lessons. Here you'll find exotic scales, complex chords, and more jazz theory.

Most lesson videos in this course include PDF attachments, which are the TAB & text lessons that you can download & print. Be sure to get all the PDFs. Some lessons have multiple attachments.

Any kind of six-string guitar will work well for this course - electric guitar, acoustic guitar, or classical guitar.

Learn all of your open chords including major, minor, 7th, and minor 7th.

Learn your major & minor barre chords each in two different positions.

Learn your major & minor arpeggios throughout the fretboard.

Learn to count all rhythms in both duple & triple time and learn to tap, strum, and pick using this new skill.

Learn the guitar techniques that will make your playing special, such as hammer ons, pull offs, slides, bends, and vibrato.

In this section, we will begin learning and playing jazz. We'll work on various 7th chords, relative chords, modes, extended arpeggios, and soloing over chord progressions.

Learn multiple positions of dominant 7, minor 7, major 7, m7b5, and diminished 7th chords.

Learn how & what chords work well together in relation to the major scale notes.

Learn all of the relative modes, the seven shapes of the major scale that traverse the entire fretboard.  This is a wonderful awakening for your guitar solos.

We will expand on our relative chords grid by including the respective 7th chords for each scale degree.

Learn the extended 7th arpeggios to solo over any 7th chord perfectly.

Use all of your skills to solo throughout the relative C chords in this tutorial.  Modes, arpeggios, and various chord combinations are fully explored.

We continue our jazz journey learning more extended chords like 6's and 9's as well as their arpeggios and interaction with relative chords, plus various chords, ii V I change, and chord numbering.

Learn the variations and positions of 6th and 9th chords.

We continue to expand on our relative chord grid using all extensions to the 9th degree.

Learn to arpeggiate all variations of 6th and 9th arpeggios to solo over them with perfection.

Learn the shapes & theory of various chord types, such as sus, add, and slash chords.

Take a deeper look at the Nashville numbering system and a full workup of the notes for all 12 music keys.

Learn the most common chord change in jazz.

We continue our jazz journey with a study of note intervals, relative chords to the final 13th extension, 11th & 13th arpeggios, chord tones, dyads, learning to read standard music notation, and more.

Learn how to decipher notes, scales, and chords using intervals.

Learn the shapes of the remaining extended chords, the 6/9, 11th, and 13th variations and how they work within the relative chord grid.

Learn to arpeggiate the remaining extended chords to create perfect solos over those chords.

Learn one of the best-kept secrets of jazz soloing - chord tones.  Also, learn about using dyads to create mini chords within your soloing.

Learn to read music the traditional way - using the standard notation staff.  I will teach you a simple method to get you reading music for the guitar immediately.

We will use a cool jazz concept to arrange our scale chords in an interesting way for us to practice soloing all of our arpeggios & scales/modes.

Still on our jazz jouney, we will learn about altered chords, altered arpeggios, augmented, diminished, and super locrian scales, as well as chromatic passing chord concepts.

Learn all about altered chords and how & when to use them, as well as a practice jam with altered chords.

Learn the arpeggios for altered chords and how to construct them in the moment.

Learn the whole tone (or augmented) scale and how & when to use it to solo over altered chords.

Learn the most versatile scale for soloing over altered chords - the 7th mode of the melodic minor scale.

Learn the diminished scale and how to use it, including all basic diminished theory.

Learn how to add passing diminshed 7th chords chromatically beside any other chord, as well as a great trick for passing 9b5 descending chords.

As we come to the conclusion of our course, we'll learn more passing chord concepts, tritone substitution & secondary dominants, advanced pentatonics, bebop scales, and finish with chord progressions.

Learn to pass dominant & altered chords chromatically approaching any chord.

Learn about tritone substitution and how to pass a secondary dominant over any chord.

Get a crash course in major & minor pentatonic scales, then learn how to use them in extreme ways to solo over major, minor, & dominant chords.

Learn how to construct these 8-tone scales (based on the major scale) to access some interesting new tones for a jazzy sound.

Use chords, arpeggios, & scales to play through this progression of jazz chords.
