Sensory physiology is the scientific study of how sensory organs, such as the eyes, ears, nose, tongue, and skin, receive and process information from the environment. Sensory physiology is a branch of neuroscience that focuses on how the nervous system interacts with the external world.
The Sensory Organs
The sensory organs are specialized structures that receive stimuli from the environment and convert them into electrical signals that can be interpreted by the brain. The five main sensory organs are:

Eyes: The eyes receive light stimuli and convert them into electrical signals that are sent to the brain, where they are interpreted as images.

Ears: The ears receive sound stimuli and convert them into electrical signals that are sent to the brain, where they are interpreted as sounds.

Nose: The nose receives chemical stimuli and converts them into electrical signals that are sent to the brain, where they are interpreted as smells.

Tongue: The tongue receives taste stimuli and converts them into electrical signals that are sent to the brain, where they are interpreted as tastes.

Skin: The skin receives touch, temperature, and pain stimuli and converts them into electrical signals that are sent to the brain, where they are interpreted as sensations.
Sensory Processing
Once a sensory organ has received a stimulus, it sends an electrical signal to the brain. The brain then processes this signal and interprets it as a specific sensation. The way that the brain interprets a stimulus depends on a number of factors, including the type of sensory organ that received the stimulus, the intensity of the stimulus, and the context in which the stimulus was received.
