Understanding Object Storage: A Comprehensive Guide
Object storage is a technology for managing and manipulating data storage as distinct units, called objects. These objects are kept in a single, flat address space, meaning there isn't a hierarchy of folders like you might find in traditional file systems. Each object bundles the data itself, a flexible amount of metadata describing the data, and a globally unique identifier that allows the system to find and access it. This approach is particularly well-suited for handling massive quantities of unstructured data—things like photos, videos, email, sensor data, and web pages—which now constitute the majority of data generated globally.
